Huang Zhu GeGe (My Fair Princess)

I used to be so obsessed with the show when I was a kid. It was released in Singapore in 2000, so I was only 4 years old! Bless my poor soul, but my family did not have cable growing up, so instead of watching Disney Channel, Cartoon Network....etc, I was watching dramas that my grandmother used to follow. And my grandmother cannot even speak or understand Chinese! Haha. So I do not know how I even ended up watching and loving this series. In fact, I think I even have a picture of me dressed up like one of them one year.

I decided to rewatch some of the episodes for a trip down memory lane and also to see if there were any architectural interest that stood out to me. But I also knew that with films, there are always considerable amount of artistic license employed. I am also aware that this film is set in 18th century, Qing Dynasty (which comes after Ming) However, a lot of their interior architecture remained the same. It is the layout of courtyard houses that had a bigger change.

Ps. Sorry for the terrible quality, screen shots. I tried.

I really like how with the correct lighting, the windows really help to enhance the mood. The shadows cast by the grills/pattern in the panels also make nice shafts of light coming through it.

It is also interesting to see how the rooms are separated with dividers and I think these are elements I can look further at while designing my space later on.
