WW1 Rear Room

October 06, 2017

This was actually quite a challenge project for me. Each of us had were given a specific time period in Britain's history where we had to design a living space for either the rich or the working class/lower class people of that time. I was given World War One, working class.

I found out the typical blueprint of a working class family consist of an upstairs and a ground floor. The ground floor is then divided into the front room and a rear room. The front room is often saved for entertainment purposes and where the best furnitures are kept. However, since we are supposed to design a living space, I decided to focus on the rear room as this is where the family spend most of their time. In most working class families, the rear room doubles up as a kitchen and dining room.

It is also my first time using Sketch Up. And here is what I came up for my design.
Ps. The architecture of the house follows the Edwardian style as there was simply not enough resources or money for home improvements during the time of the great war.
